Which is the best period to visit South Africa?

Each season offers a different natural display such as whale and turtle’s season or a flowering desert! The safaris can be very different with green landscapes and many baby antelopes or a harsh and yellow savannah that would benefit game viewing.

The rainy season starts in November till March in the northern part of the country while in the western region the rainy season starts in June till late August.

Is there malaria in Southern Africa?

Yes.
South Africa: if you are visiting the Kruger National Park or the northern part of KwaZulu-Natal you are exposed to malaria areas and you should take precautions.
The rest of South Africa is malaria free.
Botswana: malaria exists in the Okavango Delta, Chobe National Park and Linyanti region.
Namibia: malaria is only found in the Caprivi region.
Zimbabwe: Victoria Falls is in the malaria area too.

What is the tipping guide in Southern Africa?

As a rough guide: give 10% to 15% to a waiter in a restaurant. The tipping guidance for your safari ranger is provided at the different lodges, but it is completely at your discretion.

How does the ATM and bank system work in South Africa?

ATM’s machines are easy to find in every town and at most petrol stations. The banks operate from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 15:30 and on Saturday from 09:00 till 11:00. Traveller’s cheques are accepted by all banks.
